Institutional Engagement
Are you interested in connecting with colleagues who share similar backgrounds or identities at the University of Arkansas? Consider joining one of the nine Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) at the university. These groups provide support to employees with similar experiences and offer a great opportunity to build meaningful relationships. By joining an ERG, you can promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace, which can increase your job satisfaction and engagement.
Take advantage of this chance to cultivate an inclusive environment and establish valuable connections with your peers. If you don't see a group that fits your needs, you can discuss establishing a new group with Dr. Angela Mosley-Monts by contacting her at belongs@uark.edu.

Founded in 2010, the Chancellor’s Commission on Women is an advisory group charged with reviewing and monitoring policies, programs and issues to ensure that all women of the university are given the best possible opportunities for success within the institution and in their professional and college careers.
Membership comprises both graduate and undergraduate students, faculty and staff who serve on staggered three-year appointments to ensure there’s a fresh and diverse points of view represented. The group collectively decides what issues to tackle each year, and relies on input from colleagues, students, and occasional surveys to gain a sense of the campus’ interests and needs.

Current Students Faculty, Staff & Student LeadersUnity Alliance is a dedicated group of faculty and staff at the University of Arkansas committed to fostering an inclusive environment across all units, departments, and colleges within the university. By actively promoting inclusivity, Unity Alliance plays a crucial role in cultivating a sense of belonging and engagement among the entire campus community.
Fostering Inclusivity
Unity Alliance provides guidance and support to foster inclusivity in several keyways:
1. Education and Awareness: Workshops, seminars, and training sessions are organized to raise awareness about the importance of belonging and engagement. These programs aim to educate faculty, staff, and students on topics such as cultural competency, unconscious bias, and inclusive teaching practices.
2. Support Networks: We create support networks for underrepresented groups, providing a platform for voices that might otherwise go unheard. These networks offer mentorship, resources, and a sense of community to help individuals navigate their academic and professional journeys.
3. Community Engagement: Actively engaging with the broader community, Unity Alliance promotes inclusivity beyond the campus. We partner with local organizations and participate in community events to build bridges and foster mutual understanding. Our community engagement series, held during heritage months, feature professional speakers and are offered both virtually and in-person.
4. Professional Development: We provide numerous professional development opportunities to enhance the skills and careers of faculty and staff. These include workshops, mentorship programs, and networking events designed to foster personal and professional growth.
Encouraging Belonging and Engagement
Inclusivity is the cornerstone of belonging and engagement. When individuals feel included, they are more likely to engage fully in their work, studies, and community activities. Unity Alliance’s efforts to foster an inclusive environment directly contribute to a more vibrant, collaborative, and dynamic university community.
1. Sense of Belonging: Creating spaces where all individuals feel welcome and valued helps to build a sense of belonging. This sense of belonging is essential for the well-being and success of faculty, staff, and students alike.
2. Increased Engagement: Inclusive environments encourage active participation and engagement. When people feel that their unique perspectives are appreciated, they are more likely to contribute their ideas, talents, and energy to the university’s initiatives.
3. Enhanced Collaboration: Inclusivity promotes collaboration across different units, departments, and colleges. Unity Alliance facilitates cross-departmental projects and initiatives that benefit from diverse perspectives and expertise.
4. Personal and Professional Growth: An inclusive environment supports the personal and professional growth of all members of the university community. Unity Alliance’s programs and initiatives provide opportunities for continuous learning, development, and career advancement.
